RING ONE WITH NATURE
Gracing the landscape of Cunhambebe State Park, near Mangaratiba, in RJ, a magnificent creation by Japanese contemporary artist Mariko Mori towers above a 58m tall waterfall known as Véu da Noiva (“Bride’s Veil”). Ring: One With Nature, A luminous acrylic ring, measuring 10 feet in diameter and weighing a staggering two tons, stands as a testament to the intersection of art, nature, and innovation.
As the sun’s rays caress the ring from different angles, it undergoes a mesmerizing transformation.
During the day, it shimmers in hues of blue, while at sunset, it metamorphoses into a golden glow. However, during the winter solstice, this celestial circle aligns perfectly with the sun, creating a moment of sublime harmony.
Ring: One With Nature, her second creation, is a permanent installation, generously gifted by the Faou Foundation to the State of Rio de Janeiro and the INEA (State Environmental Institute). Its premier on August 2, 2016, was accompanied by the full endorsement of the Celebra Cultural
Program of the Rio Olympics. Her previous creation, Sun Pillar, has adorned a remote bay in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan since 2011. Mariko’s artistic vision transcends borders, as she continues her mission to grace each inhabited continent with monumental public artworks.
